How we created a luxe coastal home for our Mosman Project.

Welcome to the transformation of our Mosman Project, where we’ll show you how we elevated this house into a beautiful, luxe coastal home, with gorgeous fresh vibes!

The old sandstone home, originally built in 1905, had previously been renovated and modernised, so with key structural changes already completed, the brief for us was to update the home to make it feel fresh, inviting, and a little bit luxe!

To elevate and refresh the home whilst retaining its inherent classic charm, we maintained the gorgeous traditional features and layered these with more contemporary design elements.

The mood we curated was a relaxed, luxe, coastal sanctuary.  Below we outline the most impactful design choices that created this look and feel... plus enjoy the epic before and after transformation photos below!

We’re happy to say that the home has now reached its full potential as a tranquil coastal sanctuary!  We achieved our design goals and breathed new life into the home, while honouring its history.  Most importantly, our clients love the way it feels….. like a home that truly nourishes their soul!

Creating a Fresh Colour Palette

Before we started, the home was a little dark and gloomy, due to the moodier colour palette used throughout. So, we lightened and brightened the home by…

  • Painting the interiors a crisp, fresh white which allowed the natural light bounce around the rooms (rather than absorbing into the walls, which happens when you paint in darker tones).

  • Replaced the pendant lights. Originally the home had dark, heavy-looking chandeliers in the living and dining spaces, making the ceilings look lower than they actually are. So we swapped them out for GORGEOUS, chalk white, coastal-inspired chandeliers that deliver a wow factor and added to the design style we were creating.

  • Updating the window treatments throughout by removing the dark roman blinds and curtains, and swapping them for lighter, white, textured blinds that provide a lovely window detail without the heaviness.

Furniture, Artwork and Décor Selection

Our vision was to create a luxe, coastal home, but we also wanted it to feel unique and special to our clients, so we carefully curated a combination of our client’s existing pieces with new furniture, soft furnishings, artwork and décor to create the contemporary, coastal vibe that is uniquely theirs.

Master Suite Refresh and Ensuite Renovation

We wanted to give the Master Suite a total revamp and create a beautiful retreat, somewhere our clients could escape the daily grind, soak in the coastal view, and feel relaxed.

We refreshed the space top-to-toe with new carpet, beautiful soft grey walls, replaced the heavy curtains with roman blinds - to help to enhance the view, designed a custom bedhead and lovely linen bedding in calm, neutral tones.

We created a beautiful luxe vibe and now this space oozes sanctuary!

The ensuite had a significant transformation too, as you can see from the ‘before’ photos below! We turned it from a masculine, dark space into an open and light-filled oasis by…

  • A fresh, timeless colour palette - shades of grey with black accents
  • Creating interest and texture using sweet marble hexagon mosaic tiles that wrapped around all the ensuite walls
  • Opened up the space by removing the bath and creating a generous walk-in shower, double vanity and loads of storage.
  • Injected streams of natural light by adding a skylight – essential for any bathroom!

Transforming a bedroom into a home office

Our clients were looking to convert one of their (unused) bedrooms into a home office, so we designed a generous custom desk to accommodate two people, added floating shelves – perfect to style with beautiful décor - and storage, of course, to house all the office essentials.

The outcome… a highly functional and stylish home office!

We loved breathing new life into this gorgeous home, and in doing so creating a luxe, coastal home that feels like a tranquil oasis!  I hope you enjoyed going behind the scenes and seeing the most impactful design choices we made along the way.

We delivered on the client’s brief by helping elevate the home, whilst still retaining a relaxed and inviting vibe, and ultimately creating a spectacular home that is highly liveable and now more connected to its stunning coastal outlook.  Cheers to that!
